Project Overview

Nestled on a historic shale/bluestone quarry, Goat Hill exemplifies compact, modern design, orchestrated by Catskills Fine Homes. 

This 1-bedroom, 1-bath, 1000 sq. ft. barnhouse integrates effortlessly with its rustic surroundings, offering a luxurious living experience that respects the natural terrain.

The Challange

The site posed significant challenges due to its rocky terrain and dense bluestone. Extensive demolition and precise excavation were necessary to prepare the site for an innovative ICF (Insulated Concrete Forms) poured foundation and the utility trenches required for the home.

The Solution

Our team navigated the geological challenges by employing advanced excavation techniques and selecting materials that would withstand demanding conditions without compromising the integrity of the design. 

For the septic system, we took a creative and precise approach by constructing a partially raised septic drain field. This required importing 10 triangle loads of properly mixed material to create a foundation supporting the necessary percolation rate, ensuring the system's functionality and compliance.

The Process

Construction commenced with careful site preparation, tackling the challenging terrain through strategic rock demolition and targeted excavation. 

This phase laid the groundwork for a construction process that was a collaborative effort with the client, ensuring every element from the architectural design to the interior finishes aligned perfectly with expectations for a high-end home.

The Results

Completed in just 18 weeks, Goat Hill stands as a premier example of modern living perfectly adapted to the stunning Catskills landscapes. 

The project has demonstrated the effectiveness of meticulous planning and superior construction techniques in delivering a home that excels in beauty and functionality.
